Just wanted to share some of my favorite things at home. Most of all I love for my home to be cozy and reflect our little family. It isn't perfect and is ALWAYS evolving. Most of the pieces of furniture I have were thrifted, found on the side of the road, or given to me. When I say side of the road I mean when it is spring clean up and people are just throwing out STUFF to get rid of it, that is when I look on the curbs. I feel like I have rescued many items that were fabulous from going straight through the trash. I love to buy new things too, but they are rarely ever as cool and unique as found things.

My dresser bought at Goodwill for 17.99!

I like to have all mismatched pillows on my bed, I am lacking a headboard right now because I can't decide on an idea I like.

This is my little record listening area. As you can see the record player is huge, so I have accommodated it by placing it on the floor. I do want a more compact one eventually, but I do love the vintage feel this one has. It also has two speakers in the front that swing out, which I think is very innovative for the time.

Finds...

*Blue Chair - found on side of the road, repainted and used a seat cushion purchased at the Better Homes and Garden's prop sale.

*French Girl Picture - from a calendar purchased at Barnes and Noble when they slash the prices after the Holidays. :)

*Bottles - you can find beautiful bottles EVERYWHERE! Stash them away for when you need them. I put some dollar store numbers on the apothecary jar to spruce it up!

And now for my daughter's room! This is the best her room has looked in months, she is a clutter queen. I am not sure where this comes from exactly because I HATE clutter. We still have the pale pink from when she was smaller, and are thinking of going more bold. She wants orange not sure how to work that one into the color scheme yet.

Found this green dresser around the corner from my house on the curb. It was in great shape and already painted this way! I snatched it right up.

I like the idea that I mentioned before of mismatching all your pillows! It makes it much more interesting and easy to find pillows to add to your collection.

Another Goodwill find was this lovely framed artwork. It isn't really vintage and probably came from a department store, but it looks great in my living room ;)

If you are looking for something cheap to collect with BIG style... Bottles are it! They come lovely shades of blue, green or just glass. You can peel the labels off of bottles you like that are glass too. I also collect vintage cameras and surprisingly they are also cheap for the most part.

This chair was also rescued off the curb, it is shabby and vintage just the way I like it. Even if you find a chair that won't support sitting it will surely support a photo frame ;)

I love it when I find new things at the grocery store I like, I wanted to share a few of my favorite things!

I have been using Burt's Bees for years, and now they have all kinds of new flavors to choose from! Also they are on sale at Target in two packs from all the after Christmas sales!

Fresh Fruit, Crackers, and Brie!!! MMMMM Love that this one is light. Still tastes amazing too.

I am a sucker for Greek yogurt, that is all I will eat now. Chobani is great because they offer all kinds of different flavors. They aren't too sweet... Lemon is my favorite!

I love this Creamy tomato sauce, it is sooo yummy!

In an effort to be more stylish, I decided to buy some fabulous pink shoes! I love that these are not ballet flats, and more of a loafer.

Thrifting...

DO NOT underestimate your local Goodwill!! I rarely ever buy new clothes, and almost always shop at thrift stores for them. You just have to take a little time to sort through the racks. One tip I have is to scan the rack, and almost always you can rule things out by color, texture or pattern. If I see something I "think" will work I put it right in the cart and move on. It is so much easier to sort them out once you have them in your cart, then to do it right there in the aisle! Check back often, they get new items in weekly and sometimes daily!

I love this time of year especially because I take time off or work to be home with my daughter. It is kind of a little tradition we have started since she began going to school. We always look forward to staying HOME on Christmas break. Honestly we plan all this FUN stuff, but usually end up lounging around and just being. It is always relaxing and always appreciated.

First day on break...

PLAY DOUGH

As a Preschool Teacher I have quickly learned that ANY sensory/art activity is all about the process! It really doesn't matter what the end result is, the point is to enjoy what you are doing. Don't get me wrong the end product is important sometimes, but most of the learning and cognitive skills are developed during the "doing"

These are our simple ingredients:

Flour
Oil
Salt
Cornstart
Water
Food Coloring

I really don't have a recipe I just eyeball it ;) But I usually do about 3 to four cups of flour to one cup of salt, 1/4 cup of cornstarch and then one cup of water. This time I boiled the water and salt together then let the water cool before pouring it in! She LOVED mixing the warm play dough.

It has been awhile since I posted on this lovely little blog! Life has been so busy lately and the just doesn't seem to be enough time. But alas I have a little post :) I have been working with my dad to start up his new store. It is a great little place where you can find anything from used furniture, tools, and much much more. We get a lot of really cool vintage pieces in as well which I LOVE!!!! So I have been spending time at the thrift stores, and of course it is garage sale season! It is amazing what you can find, and sometimes even for FREE!!!

ULTIMATE Thrifting experience...

I am a thrifter and when I got a call from a friend that said "what are you doing at 8:00am tomorrow?" "Do you wanna go to a Better Homes and Garden Garage sale?" I was pretty excited! Not to mention the fact, that I got some much needed girl time with one of my best pals!!! Well when we got there... AND WE GOT THERE EARLY...the line was soooo long! When I mean long imagine the longest line for an amusement park ride times Ten! I wasn't hopeful when I saw all the people but just really wanted to go check it out so we stuck with it! Glad I did.

Lavender Scented Pillows

Leave it to the hubby to figure out what this was. It seems to be from a dresser that held a mirror. Turn up upside down and imagine a round mirror inside. Makes you really think outside the box, and I LOVE IT!

OH! did I mention it was only FIFTY Cents?

Some of the books I found, wish I had brought a wagon or stroller I could have carried a lot more. The sale was in a parking garage and very dark so I struggled to look see a lot of the books. I managed to find a few that I thought were pretty unique and had beautiful covers. I was pleasantly suprised to find emails, letters, and signatures in some of the books. The emails were from agents to publishers, and specifically went with the book it was inside of. The best one though was a VERY fancy Cocktail Party invite. Now I am brainstorming of how to frame some of those interesting finds.

Most expensive item I found was $10, and it was this chair cushion for maybe a kitchen chair. I don't even have a chair for it to fit on as of yet, but I loved the fabric!

New Find!

I was planning on painting this lovely Army Footlocker a barn red...but then I put it in my living room as is...and I am in love with it. I don't think I will change a thing! I was kind of thrilled it had a sticker on it that said "property of the US Government, NON-Deployable" So this is it.

I found an old Scrabble game that was itching to be put to good use! Not sure if I mentioned it before but I collect bottles! So this was a PERFECT pairing!

unfortunately my wonderful digital camera is on the mend...so I decided it was time to bust out my film camera! I have been wanting to do this for a long time and it has just been sitting there in the closet collecting dust! It is a great camera that I used to use all the time. Why do I only need to use digital? I LOVE it of course, I will always use it for my main photography, but film is something "new" something different that I am kind of loving right now. When my other camera is repaired I think I will incorporate film into some of my sessions! Happy Weekend

I have had a great week spending time with the girl... Nothing spectacular by any means but just lounging around at home, going to the park, library, and all the other things my neighborhood has to offer! But even after having a WEEK off, nothing compares to the feeling of the weekend. We had a lovely time just hanging out! Stopped by some of our favorite places and a few new ones!

Being home over the past week has been such a treat!! I have really been inspired to work on my photography in new ways take photos of things I wouldn't normally. Find beauty in the ordinary, beauty in imperfection...and also to blog more.

We are so lucky to have a library that we can walk to in the nice weather. It really is one of our favorite things to do, now that my daughter can read it opens up a whole new world of possibilities at the Library for her!

I really LOVE books especially cookbooks.

This book kept my daughter very entertained...she loooked at the whole book!!

Lazy Mornings...

First I want to ask anyone that is reading my blog to please pray for my friend Yuri and her family that are right now in Japan. They are scared, and need prayers as do all the people of Japan.

Second day into spring break and we are LAZY today...still in our "Jams" and not getting dressed anytime soon...

French Press...Oh how my morning coffee routine has improved. To freshen up your coffee squeeze a little lemon in it! VERY NICE...

Remember when you were 7....

I remember when I was little, and things like an Easy Bake Oven were a big deal! I felt completely old the other day when I told my daughter..."when I was younger we didn't have "DSI's", our toys didn't do "that" much. So we have had an Easy Bake Oven in the closet since last Christmas. We have used it ONCE, how can that be? Well we put it to good use today, and made a couple pans of brownies. A really liked it because the package says "8 and up", she is 7. Back to the story...this was something she could do pretty much on her own and It sparked an interest in cooking, something I would love to do more with her.

Usually my weekends are spent relaxing with my little family, cleaning, organizing, catching up, and almost always a trip to the local Goodwill. Goodwill has never failed me! I have found so many things there, everytime I go I am amazed that someone actually donated "this" to Goodwill. I think the craziest find so far would be a working xbox with a 2010 Madden game in it! I will say you have to be somewhat saavy hunting around, put on your elbow pads people are NOT messing around there! Here are my latest finds!

First I have to say, I LOVE globes! This is a somewhat new obsession, as I only own two....but I plan on collecting them and arranging them together.

I absolutely loved the detailing on this one!

Green!!! my favorite color by far. I love finding things to redo, but even better when you find something that just fits right into your home AS IS!

Thus this green shelf for...WAIT FOR IT!!! $5.99 I was shocked at the price considering it was solid wood!

I know not everyone thinks of purchasing a pillow at Goodwill, and for good reason. But they are easy to clean, and well worth it!

And last but not least an unique find I will take to work with me. It is actually a lamp that plugs in. Hard to see from the photo, but it is in great shape and very "folksy"

Playing Catch up...

I am thrilled to be finished up with a few things for work, that will free up some of my time to focus more on my blog & photography! There were many photos I loved taking over the Holiday season that I wasn't free to share until after the festivities.

Our traditional photo shoot before Christmas went really well... it was fun to sneak in some casual shots and we had a lot of fun with it!

Each year since I have been working, I take off the week before Christmas to be with my daughter. It is a special time, don't get me wrong it is not all puppy dogs and rainbows...we bicker. But I wouldn't change it and love every minute of it! I hope it works out the same next year too! :) SO here are some of our adventures so far.

"Black" Friday

I am not a HUGE shopper, I like to shop usually at thrift shops & antique spots the best! Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Target, love to go there and browse through all the awesome deals! But today instead of heading out my daughter and I stayed in to "deck the halls" We managed to create some VERY COZY spots in the kitchen as well as put up the Christmas tree!! I will hopefully have photos of that up soon but I still feel like I need some finishing touches on it....maybe words or photos. I am not sure yet.

But I would love to share some photos of my kitchen, and a favorite photo arrangement in my bedroom. I am a lucky girl, I have wonderful friends and family who are very generous and often give me things I love to incorporate into my home! The green pillows are from Goodwill, as well as the white tea kettle in the photos. The white shelf with the vintage cameras was a gift from my Sister-in-law as well as a few other things in the photos! My table is a product of my husband sanding down and ordinary blonde wood table and then painted it black, with the top being chalboard paint! My daughter LOVES to write messages, and drawings on it!

I forgot to say the wooden bench under the white shelf was a find on the side of the road, by my husband who knows me SOOOO well!! The photo of Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart is one of my all time favs given to me as a Christmas present by my husband when I was a week away from delivering my daughter!

It is always nice to be at home with your children! I take so many photos of her, one way I get her interested in what she calls "boring", is to create a opportunity for pretend play. Today she was a fairy, which is often what she chooses. The fairy climbed a tree, pretended to pick a pumpkin, take photos, and I did get a few smiles :).

I love beautiful area where the Des Moines Art Center is located. Each time I go I am amazed at a new spot I find. This was such a fun & relaxed photos shoot, we explored the Rose Garden, Sculptures, Greenwood Park & then back up to shoot right in front of the Art Center. you couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day!

In tough times you become closer to the ones you LOVE. We have been traveling to MO for years & always the same way. This time we were exhausted and both CRAVING some good coffee. SO we decided to use our handy Palm & google a coffee shop, and this is what we found.

Beautiful girl with a common interest... Photography! She was completely at ease in front of the camera as well & up for ANYTHING. I must say shooting downtown in a prom dress was my FAVORITE :) It did draw some attention, and one lady actually tried to get in on the action by suggesting poses for "C" to try & at one point pushing her hair behind her ears!!! She explained to us that she used to work for VOGUE in NY. Who knows if it was true or not but it was in interesting experience for sure. And now for the photos...

and just so you know I could seriously post every sing one bcause I love them that much :)

The past week has been rough, so I haven't had any time to really post on my blog. I have a couple sessions that in spite of everything have been wonderful to go through and edit. The first is a WONDERFUL family that I am lucky enough to come in contact everyday. Thank you for choosing me to capture these special moments!

I would NEVER turn down a chance to shoot at the Capitol building!

Inside the building was a very cool phone, the kind that are getting harder and harde to come by. When I was a little girl they were EVERYWHERE. It was fun to see the little guy chat it up on this one :)

It was a wonderful weekend, we headed up North for some beach time at Clear Lake! We went last year, and plan on making this a family tradition! It was beautiful weather, and the darling had a blast! I don't know a better way to celebrate the 4th than in a small town in middle America! We ate pizza, played at the beach, and went to a carnival! I am really loving summer this year!

Thanks to all the flooding here I had to spring for a new spot to shoot this session, and I am so glad I did! It was a beautiful spot, with a beautiful family! I am so thankful they were willing to share their bug spray with me!! I would have been eaten alive!! I am very excited about the photos and I wanted to share these ones right away. I had such a great time shooting them.

Ready for Summer

Making the most of our summer!!! We have been spending a lot of time outside playing in the water, farmer's markets, the beach, movies outside,and today we did Painting outside. But first...we tried out our new Slip-n-Slide!

It took a minute to get the hang of it...

Still trying, Daddy even helped her along the way several times...

But finally she got the hang of it...and boy was it FUN

When you are six, even a small pool can provide TONS of FUN

Next we gathered up our art supplies that we got for Christmas and put them to good use! We hung our canvas up on the tree in the front yard and had a wonderful space to create.

First I just have to say how much I love doing Local things! I love finding fun things throughout the community that we can all do together as a family, and they are even better when they are FREE!! About a month ago I shot a photo of a favorite store front downtown. The store just so happens to be the name of this precious little baby! From now on I am stashing my camera in the car with me at ALL times. I just so happened to have my camera with me downtown that day and good thing I did!

We went around to some of our favorite places today, I was extremely excited to find these Flower Pins. I am thinking of all the fabulous things I could do with them...Decorate my purse....pin a scarf...sweater....ballet flats... You will definately be seeing these in an upcoming photo shoot!

I found this last week and have NO idea what to do with it. I am probably going to paint the bottom a lime green or teal...

Yesterday I went out with my Family to a few stores downtown, I wasn't exactly prepared for a photo shoot, but couldn't help but snap at least one photo of the love by that fabulous store from a couple weeks ago! It turned out pretty cute so I hope I can get back down there before it is taken down, I think it is only up until the grand opening of the store.

I very much like taking self portraits, people are always saying oh your always taking photos of yourself. It isn't vanity, it is self-expression!! Artists having been drawing, painting, sculpting etc... self-portraits for thousands of years...it is something I find fascinating.

So I found this dress at goodwill, I am ALWAYS going there looking for something. This is a little homade dress I found just hanging in a random spot...and I cannot wait to put it on A and do a little session. I am thinking barefoot...green grass...wild flowers...

Well I have mentioned before I have been spending a lot of time at my parents house after work lately....Well they have a backyard that all kids are drawn to. There is a creek that runs behind their house that the Grandkids just love to explore in. I am always talking about capturing kids as they are! Dirty, tired, messy, LOVING life....I got a chance to shoot a couple photos of my neice and nephew the other day just being the wonderful siblings they are, playing in Grandma and Grandpa's Backyard!

A little while ago I went on a little girls day with my Sister-in-law and we went to some of our favorite places. One of them being downtown...East Village... I was so blown away by this store front because I absolutely Love Audrey Hepburn. I cannot wait to go inside (it was closed) :( But here are a couple of shots I took!

I think one of my favorite things to do...is look through my digital photo files, and pull up photos I have already edited and looked at. I almost always find a favorite I didn't see before or edit it in a whole new way that I love even more! Well thanks to some photoshop actions...I am back in business on these two photos! WOW this guy is learning so fast on the guitar and is becoming an amazing musician!

Birthday Fun!

I want to thank my Sister-in-Law for letting us invade her house for the Bday party! We had a few people over nothing really big, just a fun time with close friends and family. She isn't much of a cake girl, so we made some cupcakes and let everyone decorate them. The kids really liked this part we frosted them... then added the sprinkles of course. This was the first time we were able to invite a friend from school. After we did our party, she got to take three friends to the Movies!!! It was a blast...I didn't know kids could eat that much popcorn. WOW

Where does the time go? I ask myself that everytime I look at my daughter and realize she is growing up right before my eyes. It seemed like just yesterday that I was preparing for her to come...she came two weeks early on New Years 1:14am. Of course we all make resolutions each year to try to do this and try to do that...but I have some ideas that I am going to work on this year. Number one is spending more time doing fun things with my daughter and husband. Don't get me wrong we spend a lot of time together already but I am talking about more meaningful time, one on one, making it count, best memories kind of time!!! Anyway enough rambling I do have some photos to post ;)

It is always a challenge for me to get her to look at my camera, but you know what some of the best shots I have of her are not looking.

She was excited to help me make her "Birthday Pancakes" Look at all those candles!!

She really wanted a Baby Alive doll, so she got one from Grandma and Grandpa for Christmas. We always do our Christmas with them on her Birthday weekend, so its a present extravaganza for her! She really was into this doll, of course it does its business when you feed it....

Finally I had mentioned that I was going to start "Junking" more, so I wanted to share this photo. I absolutely love to collect a few things. Bottles...mostly greenish and blueish...old furniture...but MOST of all vintage cameras! I have collected four so far that I love, I use them in some of my photo shoots from time to time. This camera is one of my favorites....

Christmas Memories

I had such a a great Holiday! I was able to take a whole week off of work and a few days next week. During my time at home we did all kinds of fun things to get ready for the Holidays. Audrey helped me make some awesome playdough to give to all our friends, and just had fun spending time together at home , a rarity these days. We are so blessed to have so much family to spend time with. Audrey was able to see cousins and just play play play! Here are some memories from our Holiday.

All my nieces and nephews are used to be getting right in their face with my camera. I love love love to take photos of them and my daughter.

I cannot believe Audrey will be six in one week!!! WOW where has all the time gone.

Adventures in "Junking"

Part of my New Year's "Resolutions" include getting out and doing more thrifting and junking. I absolutely LOVE going to thrift stores,antique shops and sometimes flea markets. Sometimes I find stuff I like to give a makeover and sometimes I find things that are just perfect the way they are...imperfections and all. So I made it to Goodwill today, I usually make a quick pass through the furniture first to see if there is any big item I can spot right off the bat that I love....well I found this..

I have been looking for awhile for a dresser from goodwill... but being the cheapy that I am I really wanted sonmething cheap cheap!! So I was very excited to find this for just $19.00!! Way to start of the Junking this year! You know what they say..One man's junk is another man's treasure!!!

A few more shots I love the detail... and the little keyhole. I will be on the lookout for some Funky hardware to add to it!

Had a great time at the Harvest Party put on by Audrey's School! It was so fun to see her mingle with her friends that she has made! She was really excited to get her face painted, I don't think that she ever has before. My nephew with the little beard just cracked me up, and my older nephew NEVER takes a bad photo!!! I have been slacking on the blog posts for awhile, the "lappy" has been sent off for fixing so that has been a roadblock. Hope to post photos from my senior session I did awhile ago soon! We had a great time at a little family get-together last night. My dad played the drums with his brothers...did Johnny Cash all the oldies and the kids just played in the biggest backyard I have seen in a long time. It was nice for Audrey to get to see some of her cousins that she doesn't get to see very much, and they seemed to have a great time. So here are some shots from the night that I particularly liked!
